The Great Tulip Giveaway: A Lesson in Chaos
On a sunny afternoon in Las Condes, the Dutch Embassy decided to give away 50,000 tulips for Tulip Day. It sounded like a peaceful event, but it quickly became a wild tulip frenzy, with crowds pushing, shoving, and some even grabbing bags full of tulips! What was supposed to be a simple flower giveaway turned into an unexpected exercise in crowd control.
The Story
At 3:00 PM, people gathered in front of the Teatro Municipal in Las Condes, ready to pick up their free tulips. The event promised six tulips per person, but things quickly got out of hand. People were filling bags, breaking stems, and causing such a commotion that Carabineros had to step in. The guanaco (water cannon) even made an appearance! To make matters worse, the metro station nearby had to close because of the huge crowd.
By the end of the event, people were posting online, half-joking: “Next time, maybe give away something less dangerous, like cactus plants!”😁
